Ages ago (June 24, 2013), Miles turned 4 years old!
Time flies.

We celebrated this monumental birthday several times.
First, with Miles’ best friend Ziggy.
Ziggy came and stayed with us for a whole day!

Ziggy opted not to wear his birthday hat (when he saw it he ran, so I nixed it right away).
Miles loved his hat because he got treats for wearing it.
Both birthday boys were showered with treats.

“What is this madness?”

“Emma come back! Put the hat back on! I want more treats for wearing it!!!”

A few days later…

I threw a dinner party with friends and family to celebrate Miles’ birthday.
{ Our last party in our former place! }

Sopes
For the celebratory dinner, I made a feast of Sopes (with the help of my amazing sous chef Jason!). I learned to make this delicious authentic Mexican dish from a former boyfriend’s mother. I make my sopes as I learned from her, with homemade sopes (fried corn cups), homemade salsa, secret marinated steak, fresh Mexican cheese, and beans. YUM.

But before we ate, Miles got his birthday feast.
Two fully loaded Sopes, minus the salsa.
* Note: Danielle asked a great question in the comments section. Go there to check out my answer.

“For me? Are you serious??”
It was a VERY good birthday.

Happy Belated Birthday to both Miles and Ziggy!
Miles sure looked like he enjoyed his special treat. Does he get an upset tummy after eating all that?
We give Oliver and Millie frozen watermelon chunks this summer and they love those!
Thanks Danielle! That is a very good question!
For Miles' first birthday, I got him a little cake designed just for dogs. On his second and third birthdays, I got him different new kinds of special bones. ALL times, he had indigestion.
I decided to plan differently this year. I chose Sopes specifically because I knew he'd eaten all of the ingredients before, sometimes quite bit by accident (kitchen floor vacuum!) and his stomach was fine. So, other than a slightly larger *cough* output, he was very happy and comfortable afterwards.
So, how funny. Sometimes eating gourmet human food can be more easy on the dog stomach than gourmet dog treats! Now that I have a dog with a sensitive stomach, I have learned to keep normal treats safe and consistent, and to make special ones just slightly more "splurge-y" versions of human foods he has had before.
Millie and Oliver must have looked so cute. Next time you must get pictures! Try frozen blueberries too. They will love them.
Happy birthday Miles! Wally and I are glad you had a wonderful day!
