Benson & Miles: Double Terrier Trouble!

Last Sunday, Miles and I did a half day of an agility competition. My friend Ashley was there with her Border Terriers Maverick and Benson. Maverick is 10 years old, and competes in the same class as Miles. Benson is 3.5 years old, and is following in his big bro’s footsteps. Ever since pestering Ashley to borrow her iPhone charger last year at Agility Regionals during a rain storm, I’ve gotten to know her well, and we’ve really hit it off. We have a lot of the same interests — especially our sense of sarcastic humor and our deep love of crazy terriers (and yes, those two traits might naturally go hand-in-hand)! After we finished at the trial, Ashley invited me to go to one of her favorite walking spots in the area. She lives relatively close to the area and knows the trails well. Miles and I are always up for new outdoor adventures, and even more so when good company is included!

The drive from the trial site to the trail site was spectacular. This is a clip of what my dashcam captured. Instant mountain emersion on the way to the dikes and marshland surrounding Pitt Lake.

Dogs, Water, Mountains. I can’t ask for more.

The walking area was excellent. Miles has never romped with Maverick or Benson before, and their first time roaming together went swimmingly.

Three wild wiry terriers, just enjoying being free.

I grew up in Western Oregon around water, endless greenery, and mountains, yet, these kinds of views never fail to fill me with feelings of bliss.

The goofy wild wiry terrier gang! I am really laughing about how close together Miles and Benson posed. For those of you who don’t know “this level” of terrier well, even the friendliest dont usually just lean against each other like it’s nothing. Even Miles usually leans a bit away from whomever he is near, just in case they need space. Miles and Benson were especially instant friends and felt totally relaxed in each other’s space. Pretty wonderful to see!

I love the touching paws.

I can’t believe the dogs were panting… This is a good sign… Spring is really, officially, undeniably here!

What a fabulous place to run free! I love it SO much… so wide open and expansive! It’s not a view I see in Boston. Truly lovely that the dogs get on so well together! Yes, leaning on each other and touching paws is pretty rare in this household. What a great friendship all around!❤️
Love you guys… Sally and Chester

Darcy, you should come visit! We should do an “exchange” and visit each other 🙂 I am laughing in sincere appreciation about leaning & paw touching at your house. I had my “test run” with a WT puppy at my house a few years ago for two weeks, and they were great friends and slept on the same bed every night — but I definitely didn’t see them snuggle in a tiny doggie bed like some people’s dogs do together! LOL.

Aww so nice to hear Mary Anne! How do you feel Border Terriers and Welsh Terriers compare? I would love to hear your feedback 🙂

Ashley, your dogs are so fantastic, so friendly and cute, and you are the best trail guide! I look forward to many more walks/hikes together <3

Aww, what a lovely time! The photos of the 3 of them on the bench are just the cutest! They really are so very close together. They did that all on their own without assistance from you? I also had to laugh during the recall video where either Maverick or Benson is trying to mouth the other while running forward – this reminded me so much of Millie and Oliver when he was a puppy. If we started running on leash side by side, he couldn’t help trying to grab some part of her (ears, tail, leg fluff) while he continued running. Silly terriers!
    Thanks for sharing!

Hi Danielle, well we asked them to go up on the bench, but the positioning was all of their own choosing! 🙂 Silly terriers indeed… You should visit with Oliver!
