One of the best dog toys I’ve ever found is the Treatstik. I got the small one when Miles was a puppy, and we’ve been big fans ever since. The toy is basic looking, but don’t be fooled by its unassuming appearance. The top easily twists off so that you can load treats inside. Most stuffable toys are difficult to clean, or are too easy or difficult for Miles to get treats out of. The Treakstik is very durable, and is the perfect level of challenge and reward. It can be used indoors or outdoors, and is very easily sterilized in the dishwasher. The hole is big enough to let little crumbs through, so it isn’t going to take too big of a dent out of your dog’s appetite or your treat stash. You can mix little bits of a special treat with little bits of a less exciting treat to keep your dog busy and healthy. Today Miles enjoyed some crushed up liver brownie in his large Treatstik outside after his bath.
Emma Kesler, CDBC, CPDT-KA is a terrier behavior specialist who has been conducting live online sessions and behavior consultations for nearly a decade. Emma shares her life with her Welsh Terrier, Miles. When Miles was young he was deemed "impossible to train" by a veterinarian and several trainers, who recommended resorting to old punishment-based methods. The quest to figure out how to work terriers in new and different ways became Emma's passion. Miles is Emma's trusted copilot, has set many performance records for terriers, and best of all, helps Emma coach others on how to share absolutely wonderful lives with their terriers.
