Nearly every dog lover is familiar with the classic Kong, and if you haven’t heard of it, look no further to learn about its use and value. The Kong toy is timeless and needs no innovation; however, I think it is time for a revamp of how we think about stuffing it! Yum! These recipes are so easy, and delicious alternatives to the great peanut butter standard. I can’t wait to freeze a couple of nutriciously-stuffed Kongs for George. Thanks, Emma, for turning us on to Ziwi-Peak from New Zealand, and organic pumpkin. I am just a few clicks away from an order that comes right to my door. A couple of Kongs is a helpful idea, too. One is definitely not enough!!

Denise, I am thrilled that you found this article useful! I am positive George will enjoy his frozen Kongs! Also, you must, must must try Ziwi Peak! It is the best dry or canned food/treats out there, hands down.

This is brilliant, Emma! I’ve always struggled with the Kong dilemma as to what to put inside that will last and be tempting. These are great recipes and ideas… going to make one right now!
    Thanks for the tips!

Darcy, YAY! I can’t wait to hear what Chester and Sally think of new recipes! What inspired me was how intelligent WTs are! They are too clever for classic stuffings. This mode of thinking will definitely change the longevity! 😉

Before I read your post, Emma, I only considered Kongs to be stuffed with food I wouldn’t eat myself or wouldn’t want my dogs eating.. (squirting cans of many unpronounceable chemicals, peanut butter with aflatoxin, cheese whiz…) Now I have a whole new world of possibilities. Thanks!
P.S. I always wondered what to do with all those yummy crumbs in the bottom of my treat bag! Genius!

Hahaha!! So true. I agree completely.
And YES!! The bottom of the treat bag used to annoy me, and now I see opportunity. 🙂

I will have to use the frozen kong idea for when I’m CC and DS (counter conditioning & densentiviting) with our little welsh Mungo in the nail trimming business! This is awesome!

Yup Danielle, nothing is better for CC/DS than the KONG! Miles used to hate getting his nails trimmed so much. I switched the the Dremel when he was around 3 and things are way better now. Have you tried it? I have a Dremeling guide here if you are interested. If you go that route let me know if you have any questions! And say “hi” to Mungo for us. I just love his name.

I have not tried the dremel on him yet. I have just started out with a scratch board so he gets use to having his nails done again. He’s showed us the power and hate he has for nails being done in only being a year old. He has bitten and drawn blood before doing nails. Lots of CC/ DS to go! It’s been a feat on its own. We will keep you posted! Eventually we will be able to have mani – pedis together in peace.

Definitely try the Dremel. No amount of effort could get Miles behind the nail clippers, which like Mungo he seemed born with! The Dremel might really change things for you!
